Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
